A Bels\u0151-Mong\u00f3li\u00e1b\u00f3l el\u0151ker\u00fclt 11 \u00e9ves &#8211; kv\u00e1zi fiatal feln\u0151tt &#8211; egyed csontv\u00e1za fejtet\u0151t\u0151l farokig 8 m hossz\u00fa, cs\u00edp\u0151ben 3.5 m magas, \u00e9s mintegy 1,400 kg-t nyom. Nagyobb, mint egy hasonl\u00f3 kor\u00fa <i>Tyrannosaurus<\/i>, a viszony\u00edt\u00e1s miatt.  \u00c9s elk\u00e9pzelhet\u0151, hogy az id\u0151sebb p\u00e9ld\u00e1nyok m\u00e9g nagyobbak voltak.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nA <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dinoszauruszweb.hu\/theropoda.html\">Theropod\u00e1khoz<\/a> tartoz\u00f3 <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Oviraptorosauria\">Oviraptorosauria<\/a> csoport (ahova a <i>Gigantoraptor<\/i> is tartozni l\u00e1tszik) eddig ismert tagjai alkatban \u00e9s m\u00e9retben a <i>Tyrannosaurus-<\/i>ok \u00e9s mai madarak k\u00f6z\u00f6tt   helyezkednek el, \u00edgy m\u00e9ret szempontb\u00f3l a <i>Gigantoraptor<\/i> kil\u00f3g a sorb\u00f3l \u00e9s azt igazolja, hogy a m\u00e9retcs\u00f6kken\u00e9s nem t\u00f6rv\u00e9nyszer\u0171 volt.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nUgyan a neve (\u00e9s ergo az azt ki\u00f6tl\u0151 kutat\u00f3k) szerint a <i>G. erlianensis<\/i> ragadoz\u00f3 volt, nem sokat tudunk arr\u00f3l, hogy val\u00f3j\u00e1ban mit is ehetett: kis feje \u00e9s hossz\u00fa nyaka n\u00f6v\u00e9nyev\u0151t sugallnak, de karmai ragadoz\u00f3 karmoknak t\u0171nnek. Az sem tiszt\u00e1zott, hogy ez a 85 milli\u00f3 \u00e9ve \u00e9lt l\u00e9ny tollas volt-e vagy sem: b\u00e1r csoportj\u00e1nak kisebb tagjai rendelkeznek tollakkal, a ma el\u0151 eml\u0151s\u00f6k k\u00f6z\u00f6tt nem ritka, hogy a m\u00e9retn\u00f6veked\u00e9s a sz\u0151rzet elveszt\u00e9s\u00e9vel j\u00e1rt (gondoljunk csak az elef\u00e1ntokra).
